Compute Regime (CRS): 75 — scarcity

Memory Regime (MRS): 71 — Tight

Memory and compute both under pressure, tightening simultaneously. Watch for price pressure across the full AI infrastructure stack.

Our Take

OpenAI's ad pilot success raises the odds that consumer-facing AI becomes a lucrative revenue stream. $100M ARR in under two months, 600+ advertisers, and expansion to Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The advertisers came. So what's actually at risk?

The pricing. OpenAI launched at $60 CPM, a premium that only holds if they can convert customers. Early Criteo data shows ChatGPT-referred users converting at roughly 1.5x other referral channels, which is the entire justification for charging above Google Search rates.

Small sample - just 500 retailers in February. The premium probably compresses. It always does.

Here's the tell: OpenAI is deliberately showing ads to fewer than 20% of eligible users daily despite sitting on a much larger addressable base. That's a company watching its conversion data before it floods the inventory. If they scale impressions and the 1.5x conversion rate holds, $60 CPM is sustainable and this becomes a real margin contributor. If it slips, the CPM has to follow, and the $100M ARR figure starts to look like a launch-window high watermark rather than a run rate.

We’re cautious on the unit economics until we see moredata.
